in the world. In order to become a PADI scuba diving
instructor, you need to attain the level of PADI
Open
Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI). This requires taking the
PADI Instructor Exam (IE).
You need to:
- Take the OWSI course or IDC.
- Have
been certified (entry
level) for at least 6 months,
with 100 dives logged.
- Have
proof of CPR/First aid
training within the last
24 months.
- Be trained as an EFR Instructor. We do that between IDC and IE.
- Have
proof of a Medical examination
within the last 12 months.
Below is a list of
levels within the PADI system, from Open Water Diver (the
'basic' level) up to Assistant Instructor. Below these
we have written the prerequisites needed to become a
PADI OWSI or scuba instructor:
PADI
Assistant Instructor (AI) or,
Instructor
from another organization:
You need to:
- Take the OWSI course.
- Have been certified (entry level)
for
at
least

months,
with 60 dives logged.
- Have proof of CPR/First aid training within the last 24 months.
- Have proof of a Medical examination within the last 12 months.
- Bring all certification cards and logbooks.
PADI Divemaster (DM) or,
leadership-level from another organization:
If you would like to only do the Assistant Instructor
course, you'll be qualified to teach the classroom portion
of all PADI courses and some in-water teaching. As an AI
you can then enroll in the OWSI course followed by the
IE, giving you full teaching status.
You need to:
- Take the IDC.
- Have
been certified (entry
level) for at least 6
months, with 60 dives
logged.
- Have
proof of CPR/First aid
training within the last
24 months.
- Have
proof of a Medical examination
within the last 12 months.
- Bring
all certification cards
and logbooks.
PADI Rescue Diver or,
rescue-level from another organization: You need to:
- Take the PADI Divemaster Course and have 60 logged
dives.
- Take the
IDC.
- Have proof of CPR/First aid training
within the last 24 months.
- Have proof of a Medical examination
within the last 12 months.
- Bring all
certification cards and logbooks.
PADI Advanced
Open Water
Diver
(AOW)
or,
advanced-level from another organization:
You need to:
- Take
the Rescue Course, the
Divemaster Course & the
IDC.
- Have
proof of CPR/First aid
training within the last
24 months.
- Have
proof of a Medical examination
within the last 12 months.
- Bring
all certification cards
and logbooks.
PADI
Open Water Diver (OW) or,
entry-level from another organization:
You need to:
- Take
the AOW Course, the Rescue
Course,
the Divemaster
Course & the
IDC.
- Have
proof of CPR/First aid
training within the last
24 months.
- Have
proof of a Medical examination

IDC
PADI Materials Required
As of Jan.1st 2006 PADI requires all IDC candidates to have in their posession all diver manuals and Instructor materials to teach courses. Candidates must bring this with them to the IDC and IE. We have a price list at the bottom of the Schedules and Prices page.
